About

Aïsha Lehmann is a Chicago-based artist and Sociology doctoral student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Originally from Utah, she completed Brigham Young University’s Studio Art BFA program, minoring in Sociology and Africana Studies. As a social scientist, Lehmann’s research interests include racial identity formation and categorization, in particular their ability to shape resource allocation and mobility. Her art practice builds on these same themes, visualizing the components and essences of social constructions and their lovely, or contrarily, detrimental real-life manifestations. Her illustrative metaphors employ quotidian objects, patterns, and the human figure, utilizing drawing, collage, and printmaking techniques.
